Legislative Specialist

Job Purpose:

The Legislative Specialist works to enhance NDFUs efforts to influence policymaking as guided through the NDFU Policy & Action. This involves conducting research on current and emerging issues, evaluating the effects of proposed legislation, and coordinating communication of NDFUs advocacy efforts.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Reviewing Organizational Policy, State Legislation and Rulemaking
    • Review and evaluates state and federal policies and legislation to determine the benefits and impact of any changes that may occur.
  • Conduct research on new and emerging policy issues and economic trends. The Legislative Specialist works with the Legislative Committee and coordinates educational opportunities to inform the committee and membership on current issue areas.
  • Stay abreast of developments and changes in government and budget processes. This is usually accomplished through conducting research, attending conferences, meetings and seminars, and traveling to program sites when necessary.
    • Assist the Government Relations Director with drafting memos, regulatory comments, letters and correspondence with elected officials and state and federal agencies.
  • Gathering and Synthesizing Data
    • Work closely with the President, Government Relations Director, and Communications Director to gather and anlalyze pertinent data to support NDFUs policy positions.
    • Synthesize data and create relevant charts and graphs for use in NDFUs communications with members and the public.
    • Collaborate with fellow staff members and member leaders in order to achieve a common goal, helping set the priorities through member driven initiatives and providing them with data to support positions
  • Communicating internally, externally, and with membership
    • Act as a liaison between the Legislative Team and Communications Team to effectively share information about the policies that the grassroots membership has adopted.
    • Coordinate the development of the biweekly legislative newsletter and assist Communications Team in developing social media posts and other communications relevant to legislative initiatives.
    • Attend meetings with elected officials to help provide the information needed to emphasize the memberships position on legislative initiatives
    • Advise on when issues need the help of other NDFU departments, and help convene meetings of those departments.
    • Assist the Member Operations department on appropriate responses to current events and to encourage member engagement.

Part Time Motor Coach Operator

Responsibilities would include driving a 56 passenger motor coach and maintaining all the necessary regulatory driver reports. Duties also include transporting children to our summer camps.

A CDL with P and Air Brake endorsement are required – must currently have or have the ability to obtain.

Experience in the transportation industry would be preferred. On the job training may be available to qualified applicant.

Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant

Job Purpose:
This primary responsibility for the Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant is to analyze, appraise and determine exposure and acceptable risks for business and to determine coverage and premium that are both adequate and competitive. The positions focus is to build strong relationships with key commercial lines agents to identify and write new commercial lines accounts, as well as to retain profitable renewal business


Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyzes exposure based on risk, collects underwriting information when needed, evaluates and prices quotes submitted by agents to select risks that are acceptable according to Risk Guidelines.
  • Underwrites and prices renewals, new business and mid-term changes.
  • Reviews and revises coverage forms when appropriate and acts as an insurance resource for assigned agents.
  • Participates on a team consisting of underwriting, claims, risk evaluation and accounting to service assigned agents
  • Negotiates pricing and coverage options with agents.
  • Builds successful relationships with agents, helping them retain and write acceptable and profitable business.
  • Works with AIC staff to ensure quote and policy information is entered correctly into the system.
  • Works on special projects as needed, including the testing, and analyzing of the compatibility of a new computer system.
  • Maintain written procedures for various job functions.
  • Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Facility Maintenance Supervisor

Purpose of the Role: The Facility Maintenance Specialist provides the responsibility of on-site personnel to maintain a clean,attractive and safe environment for all users of Farmers Union Camp. Associated duties will include accepting supplies,maintaining inventories and required record keeping. North Dakota Farmers Union requires the Facility MaintenanceSpecialist to maintain acceptable levels of neatness and cleanliness of all buildings, assigned residence and assigned vehicles.The Facility Maintenance Specialist will be a good ambassador for the Farmers Union Educational program at all times.

Supervision: The Camp Facility Maintenance Specialist will be under direct supervision of the Education Director. The YouthEducation Director is responsible for all facility management and operating procedures at Camp.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide seasonal maintenance for the entire camp in an orderly and efficient manner
  • Operate and maintain camp water and septic system
  • Establish good relations with all youth members, staff and vendors associated with camp and promote theeducation program whenever appropriate
  • Maintain records and inventories of camp equipment and supplies
  • Replacements and/or repairs will be completed as needed
  • Identify health, fire and safety hazards; inform direct supervisor, summer staff senior director and properauthorities
  • Act on hazards and take necessary remedial actions immediately
  • Keep all equipment clean and in good working condition, properly stored and used only for the intended purposes
  • Maintain the grounds by keeping grass neatly mowed and trimmed and sprayed for bugs and weeds
  • Remove trash and any downed trees and branches
  • Breakdown boxes, collect all recycling and transport to recycling center
  • Practice energy conservation for the residence and camp facilities
  • Keep all buildings and furnishings in good repair. Emphasis will be placed on:
    • Dorms, toilet and shower areas
    • Floors, walls, windows, doors and
    • Roof
    • Light fixtures, heating and aircontrols
    • Filter replacements, salt watermonitoring
    • Walkways and porches
    • Kitchen and dining hall
    • Minor plumbing and carpentryrepairs will be performed asdirected
    • Septic and well maintenance
    • Campfire preparation and cleanup
  • Ensure security, integrity and confidentiality of data and information
  • Occasionally work with members of the summer staff on specific tasks regarding the general operation of camp
  • Required to submit required weekly reports and time sheets
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Must be experienced in general maintenance duties
  • Must have the ability to operate and maintain motorized equipment and power tools

Property Risk Specialist

Location: Minot

Job purpose:

The property Risk Specialist is responsible for handling insurance claims filed by the policyholders. This position plans and schedules work needed to process claims, interviews claimants and witnesses, and will investigate all aspects of the claim. This position also performs risk analysis inspections.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Must be able to carry and climb a ladder, going onto roofs and other high places
  • Must be able to crawl into crawl spaces and other tight confined areas
  • Must have a valid drivers license and the ability to drive to investigate claims
  • Inspects properties to analyze risk on new applications and rewritten properties
  • Investigate and process insurance claims filed by policy holders
  • Interview claimants and witnesses to gather pertinent information
  • Handle and process farm, commercial and home insurance claims
  • Handle property claims involving damage to buildings and structures, or personal property
  • Inspect property damage to determine extent of damages
  • Verify that coverage applies through an insurance policy
  • Evaluate damages to ascertain compensation amount and consult with various personnel to get expert evaluation
  • Examine all written, audio and visual documents to determine how claim should be handled
  • Negotiate with claimant to settle claim and issue payout amounts
  • Maintain accurate and updated insurance files
  • Maintain written procedures for various job functions.

Member Relations Specialist

North Dakota Farmers Union (NDFU) is seeking a professional, energetic, resourceful, self-starting candidate for full-time home-based Member Relations Specialist. The ideal candidate for this position would be centrally located in ND and be available for some weekends and nights, and day hours, with some travel statewide as needed.

The successful candidate will work directly with members, Farmers Union elected officers, Farmers Union insurance agents and affiliated cooperatives and organizations of North Dakota Farmers Union. This position specializes in organizational development through cooperation, legislation, and education, emphasizing on member recruitment, engagement and support. The ideal candidate would have a BA/BS degree and strong skills in oral, written, and interpersonal communications with public speaking ability, but willing to train.
