Teen Driving: How to Stay Safe on the Road

Feb 10, 2017

While most teens are getting excited to drive their first car and preparing for the freedom that comes with it, many parents are looking at statistics and getting nervous. According to the National Safety Council, half of all teens will be involved in a car crash before graduating from high school. So, whats a way to help avoid this?

Practice driving with parents is a great way to help avoiding a crash, as is the 5 to Drive rule from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

  1. No cell phones while driving
  2. No extra passengers
  3. No speeding
  4. No alcohol
  5. No driving or riding without a seat belt.

Another way to feel more comfortable is to be sure your auto insurance policy covers your teen in the unfortunate event that there is an accident. To double check this, check with your insurance agent.
